Japanese Cooking Class

One Weekend Only! Honolulu Chef, Lisa Matsunaga is island hopping to teach four of her favorite Japanese dishes here on Kauai. Her clean flavor profiles, dedication to procuring the freshest seasonal ingredients, and attention to the smallest details all pay homage to her Japanese heritage. The class menu includes Misoyaki Butterfish, Diakon Salad with Shiso and Ume Dressing, Osuimono Dashi Soup, Sesame Green Beans, and Vegan Chocolate Tofu Mouse with Roasted Mac Nuts and Berries.

Age Requirement: 16 years or older (Youth ages 16-17 must be accompanied by a registered adult)

Location: The Cooking Kauai, Provisions Kitchen in Lawai.

All the needed ingredients, recipes, and tools will be provided so guests may practice the techniques during class.

Lisa Matsunaga, RD is a Registered Dietitian and cooking instructor based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Guests are invited into her home kitchen, where she combines her nutrition expertise with her love of cooking to teach guests how to cook nutrient-dense and delicious meals. Her classes have attracted Hawaii locals and visitors from around the world who appreciate her friendly teaching style and uncomplicated yet impressive recipes. She sprinkles her classes with evidence-based nutrition knowledge and practical tips to shop, cook, and eat healthfully.

Matsunaga’s cooking style reflects the Japanese traditions from her mother’s kitchen, seasonal California cuisine from her upbringing in Southern California, and the bounty of tropical flavors from Hawaii.

When not teaching classes, Matsunaga enjoys traveling with her husband, doting on her two dogs, and trying to convince people to try natto, the infamous Japanese superfood.
