Introduction to Pickling Class

It’s time to stock up your pantry with flavorful, homemade pickles! We will roll up our sleeves and practice the fundamentals of fermentation. Under-ripe Starfruit? You can pickle that. A glut of garden vegetables, pickle them! Maybe you were wooed by the adorable, mini quail eggs at the farmers market and now don’t know what to do with them… brine ’em up for a delicious, protein-packed snack!

 

Hopeful Menu (if Mother Nature cooperates)

  • Hawaii-style Pickled Mango
  • Quick Pickle Red Onions
  • Canned Dilly Beans
  • Tacoria-style Pickled Vegetables (escabeche)
  • Spicy Shoyu Pickled Quail Eggs

 

Aletha Thomas, the founder of both Monkeypod Jam and Cooking Kauai, teaches this introductory class. Her 15+ years of experience in both home and commercial preservation make her one of Hawaii’s top authorities.

Age Requirement: Ages 16+

Location: The Cooking Kauai, Provisions Kitchen in Lawai. The exact location will be shared after registration.
