OperAloha!

Chamber Music Kauai will be offering a one-night-only performance of OperAloha on Saturday, March 7 at 7pm at St. Michael and All Angels Church in Lihue. Opera Aloha is a concert tour that blends opera with the diverse musical traditions of Hawaii, presented by global opera talent. Over the past four years, the series has showcased music in more than a dozen languages, reflecting the cultural richness of the islands, including Native Hawaiian, Maori, Samoan, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Portuguese, and Spanish, alongside traditional operatic repertoire in Italian, French, German, and English. The program emphasizes personal storytelling and the shared tradition of ensemble singing, something both opera and Hawaiian music deeply value.

One of the program’s special highlights will be a performance by hula dancer Jelacia Peralta, who will be Kauai’s Miss Aloha Hula contestant at the Merrie Monarch Festival this April!

The concert will feature Samoan soprano Aivale Cole, who performs regularly across Europe and is known both as an opera singer and a film music performer. Many will recognize her soaring soprano voice from The Lord of the Rings. Also appearing is Maori-Chinese bass Morgan Andrew King, currently based at the Frankfurt Opera and a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music. He will be joining the Paris Opera Ensemble this summer, and just before coming to us, he’ll be on an all-Maori concert tour in Switzerland, making his appearance here especially meaningful. Tenor Christopher Oglesby, based in San Francisco, sings regularly with San Francisco Opera and Opera San Jose. He returns to the islands after a very successful appearance with Opera Aloha last season and brings both vocal power and a strong connection with local audiences.

The producer of Opera Aloha is concert pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg, who has worked extensively in Hawaii since 2018, including with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival on the Big Island, Kahilu Theatre, and Hawaii Opera Theatre. Ronny returns to Hawaii Opera Theatre this April to work on their newly commissioned Hawaiian opera, “Kamalehua: The Sheltering Tree”.

A maximum of 150 tickets will be sold. Any tickets remaining at the time of the concert will be available for $30 by cash, Hawaii check, Zelle, or Venmo.
