SUMMARY:Kalani Pe’a with special guests Coppin Colburn Trio
DESCRIPTION:Kalani Pe’a\nwith special guests Coppin Colburn Trio \nShow Date\nSaturday May 17\, 2025 \nKalani Pe’a\nKalani Peʻa sings everything from classical\, musical\, ballads\, R&B\, soul to traditional and original Hawaiian music\, displaying his wide-ranging talents as a songwriter and music composer. His talent for lyrics and Hawaiian language fluency is on display in his original Hawaiian songs alongside his affectionate bilingual arrangements of R&B favorites. \nIt started at age four when Peʻa was diagnosed with a speech impediment — his mother introduced him to singing and music to help him pronounce his words. His father comes from a musical family and both parents encouraged him to take vocal lessons and choir –by age 8\, Peʻa was winning numerous talent competitions\, and went on to win in men’s classical and musical divisions while receiving his degree from Colorado Mesa Univ. \nHis debut album brought him to Dave Tucciarone\, a 13-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-Winning Engineer and Producer in Honolulu\, leading to the 2017 Grammy® win and first Na Hoku Award. This successful collaboration continued with Kalani’s second CD\, No ‘Ane‘i [We Belong Here] and 3rd CD Kau Ka Pe‘a\, earning him Grammy Awards\, and featuring him in 2022 Grammy Opening Premiere Concert. Kau Ka Pe‘a also won him 2 Nā Hōkū awards\, including the honor of Male Vocalist of the Year. He now boasts a remarkable 4 for 4\, winning his 4th Grammy for his 4th release Kuini. \nThe first Hawaiian singer to be part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook\, Kalani returned to New York in 2024\, for Carnegie Hall’s Musical Explorers program\, selling out eight shows for students as well as two family matinees. A fluent Hawaiian speaker\, Peʻa started his career as an educator\, publishing five Hawaiian language children’s stories. He taught at Kamehameha Schools in Kona and Maui\, teaching Hawaiian culture (science focus)\, and creating curriculum. In 2021\, his song E Na Kini was featured on the Netflix release Finding ‘Ohana and he was also selected as a featured artist for Spotify and Amazon Music campaigns during AAPI (Asian-American Pacific Islander) month\, gracing billboards on over 120 transit shelters in New York and San Francisco. Following his first Grammy win\, he was honored by the Hawai‘i State House of Representatives with an official proclamation: “It is vital that Native Hawaiian culture and the arts be perpetuated for future generations: Kalani Pe’a is a torchbearer and we recognize his accolades\, accomplishments\, and continued work on behalf of Native Hawaiians.” \nSelf-described as “Hawaiian contemporary soul”\, Kalani’s dynamic and charming stage presence\, vocal brilliance\, and range of songs from Hawaiian to R&B has brought him to the forefront of Hawaiian music for both traditionalists and a new generation. Adding a Christmas show to his repertoire\, Kalani Pe‘a’s Hawaiian Christmas is a celebration of the warmth and special “aloha” of the Holiday Season\, sharing much-loved songs from both western and Hawaiian roots. \nConcerts with a Cause\nAnaina Hou Community Park is excited to continue our Concerts with a Cause Mission Driven Music offerings with Kalani Pe’ar! SUMMARY:TRADITIONAL ANCIENT JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY MAY 31
DESCRIPTION:KALAHEO — The Lawai International Center will host a traditional ancient Japanese tea ceremony presented by the Urasenke Kaua’i Kyoukai Tea Association on Saturday\, May 31 at 10:30 a.m.\, noon\, and 1:30 p.m. in Kalaheo. \nThis rare event will be held in the center’s Hall of Compassion\, a hand-carved replica of 13th-century architecture that was built by the hands and hearts of masters in Asia and volunteers on Kaua’i. As the tea ceremony members mature\, this might be their last year to offer this experience. \nThere will be 25 seats available per session.  Reservations are required. The suggested minimum donation is $40.  For reservations\, text or call (808) 639-5952 or email info@lawaicenter.org. \nThe Lawai International Center\, a non-profit community project\, is an archaeological and cultural treasure in a valley that has long been recognized as a healing sanctuary. In 1904\, the first generation of Japanese immigrants built 88 shrines replicating an ancient pilgrimage of 88 temples in Shikoku\, Japan. Today\, the Center is the only such site existing outside of Japan and is one of the oldest Buddhist temple sites in the country.  \nOur mission remains steadfast   — to preserve and nurture the land and its rich cultural heritage\, extending a heartfelt invitation to all who wish to experience its essence through the spirit of compassion and aloha. For more information about the center visit www.lawaicenter.org.

SUMMARY:Israel Vibration featuring Duane Stephenson & Roots Radics
DESCRIPTION:Israel Vibration\nFeaturing Duane Stephenson & Roots Radics \nShow Date\nSunday June 1\, 2025 \nIsrael Vibration\nA living lesson in fortitude\, the vocal trio of Cecil “Skeley” Spence\, Albert “Apple Gabriel” Craig\, and Lascelle “Wiss” Bulgin overcame adversity\, illness\, and poverty to become one of the finest roots groups in Jamaica’s history. All three had been afflicted by polio and first became acquainted\, albeit briefly\, at Kingston’s Mona Rehabilitation Clinic.\nThe three teens had individually all previously converted to rastafarianism\, now their shared faith and childhood experiences helped forge a strong friendship. They spent the next six years singing around Kingston for their suppers and by 1975\, Israel Vibration was a vocal force to be reckoned with. The group’s exquisite dread sound and militant cultural themes made an instant impression and the trio now found themselves on-stage opening for the likes of Bob Marley and Dennis Brown. \nThe trio’s deeply devotional songs\, cultural themes\, inspirational lyrics\, and original take on the roots style had struck a chord with reggae fans around the world. They relocated to New York City\, perhaps believing that the large immigrant community could sustain them\, or that America was now ready to embrace roots. But a few occasional live appearances aside\, the group swiftly disappeared from view. All three attempted solo careers\, but only Bulgin made it on to record; his Mr. Sunshine album paired him with the Freedom Fighters Band. \nIn 1997\, Apple Gabriel left the group to pursue a solo career\, releasing the album Another Moses in 1999. Skelly and Wiss continue to record albums and tour the world as Israel Vibration\, backed by longtime associates Roots Radics. In December 2014 they were reportedly recording a new album set for release in early 2015. The new album\, entitled “Play It Real” was released on 31 March 2015 via Utopia. On March 23rd\, 2020\, Albert “Apple Gabriel” co-founder and former member of the group died due to ‘compilation sickness’\, earlier reports indicated that Albert was not well for quite some time\, this was supposedly due to some of the polio infections left in his body. On a Facebook post on March 7\, 2020\, he had indicated that he had suffered a stroke. He died on March 23\, 2020. On August 26th\, 2022\, Cecil “Skelly” Spence died of lung cancer. \nDUANE STEPHENSON\nDuane Stephenson has distinguished himself as a respected singer and songwriter with a purity of heart and sound that can be felt from the first note of his melodic instrument. From the quality of his voice to his potent lyrics and memorable melodies\, Duane ably addresses a variety of issues\, ranging from powerful social commentary to romance. Duane’s work as a singer and songwriter are reflective of his early artistic exposure to the music industry veterans\, many of whom have provided guidance and inspiration along his path. \n\n\n\nWhat’s included\n\nThis is GA standing room show. We will have some seating sections set up throughout the venue available on a first come first serve basis. \nWe will have some covered raised tables available around the perimeter of the lawned area. \n\n\n\nWhat’s not included\n\nBeverage Concessions both Alcoholic and Non Alcoholic will be available throughout the show. \nFood will be available for purchase on site.
