Week 7, March 17: Hawaiian Soul: Mele Aloha ‘Āina” “Kamalei Kawa‘a Music” (Top 20 in Season 25 of The Voice)
Join Kamalei Kawa’a on Monday, March 17 at the OUTRIGGER Kauai Beach Resort and Spa for Hawaiian Soul: Mele Aloha ‘Āina. Inspired by Hawaiian hero George Helm and his powerful message of Aloha ʻĀina, Kamalei seeks to ignite that same passion and awaken our kuleanaas Hawaiians to mālama and alohaʻāina through mele. This special evening honors that legacy and aims to inspire a renewed love, responsibility, and pride for the land we call home.
“Kamalei Kawa’a, a proud husband, father, and musician from Paukūkalo, Maui, is a renowned Native Hawaiian singer and songwriter who has earned a 4-time Nā Hoku Hanohano Award. Hula and Hawaiian music have always been a part of his upbringing, shaping his deep connection to his heritage. As a dancer with the award-winning Hālau Kekuaokalā’au’ala’iliahi, Kamalei was the 2008 Master Hula o Nā Keiki winner and the 2016 Richard Ho’opi’i Leo Ki’eki’e Falsetto Champion. He is also a Grammy nominee and a Top 20 contestant on NBC’s The Voice Season 25.
While Hawaiian music is central to his roots, Kamalei has always sought to explore and share a blend of musical styles. He founded his island reggae band, ʻAinaty, to combine his diverse musical influences, showcasing his passion for many genres. Today, he carries the kuleana of sharing aloha through hula and mele, inspiring audiences around the world while honoring his Hawaiian culture.”
