Na Lima Hana 2010

Cultural Festival in Poipu at Grand Hyatt Regency Kauai
Na Lima Hana Event

Na Lima Hana Festival Replaces Hawaiiana and Malama Ola Festivals October 21-23, 2010 at Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa

This year’s HHLA conference diverges from the panel-discussion format of the past “Is Hawaiian Culture Alive and Well” annual conferences.

The Na Lima Hana (many hands working) Festival, which combines the former Hawaiiana and Malama Ola Festivals, bring an interactive educational experience about Hawai’i`s diverse cultural traditions and health practices to the Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa, October 21 – 23, 2010. Visitors and residents will experience a hands-on learning environment over the three-day event.

On Thursday, October 21st, there will be an “intimate” arts and crafts fair at the `Ilima Foyer in the Grand Hyatt Kaua`i’s expansive open-air lobby, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The evening of the 21st brings a traditional lu`au at the resort. Friday, October 22nd starts with an Awa ceremony at 7 a.m. On Saturday, October 23rd, the Na Lima Hana Festival presents a full day of cultural demonstrations such as salt-making, poi-pounding, lau hala weaving, playing the nose flute and the art of kakau (tattoo). In addition, health-related sessions on Native Hawaiian medicinal plants, detoxification, lomi lomi (massage) and acupuncture are scheduled. Saturday evening presents a powerful male hula performance by Na Kane o Ke-one-loa Pa Hula under the directorship of Kumu Hula, Charles Kaupu. The evening will also offer top-line entertainment at the Grand Hyatt Kaua`i’s Seaview Terrace. All events are open to the public with most activities free of charge. Events are subject to change. There is a registration fee for the conference on Friday, October 22nd.

The Na Lima Hana Festival is partially sponsored by the Hawai`i Tourism Authority and Kaua`i County. Friday's conference is organized by the Hawai`i Hotel and Lodging Association – Kaua`i Chapter.
