Garden Island Range and Food Festival
Kaua`i's second Garden Island Range and Food Festival is modeled after the annual Taste of the Hawaiian Range, which has been growing in popularity for 14 years on the Big Island. Kaua`i's festival, subtitled the "Locovore Pa`ina" will be held Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kilohana Pavilion. Chefs will get a particular cut of meat a couple days before the event and come up with a way to serve it. Attendees will graze their way though samples of each recipe while they mix and mingle with farmers and ranchers who provided the Kaua`i-grown products for the feast. There will be family-friendly entertainment with a makahiki theme, drawings for prizes and soft drinks. Contributing ranchers are: Duane Shimogawa Sr., William Sanchez and the Andrades for beef; M&H Kaneshiro Farms for pork; and Daryl Kaneshiro's Omao Farms for lamb. Dozens of farmers from around the island are providing fresh produce. Contributing chefs will be drawn from a dozen local restaurants and the Kaua`i Community College culinary arts program. Tickets are $35 for adults; half price for children; children 5 and under free. Tickets on sale in October at Gaylord's Restaurant, Scotty's Music, Vicky's Fabric, Hanalei Strings & Things, or in advance by calling 652-2802 or 338-0111.
